![]() ![]() So, I personally would not use it as my graphic style for a commercial project because, visually, it would look too alike to a plethora of other games. For example, though Time Fantasy is an excellent style and a definitely nice change of pace, I believe it's the most commonly used art below Character Generator stuff. I believe it all depends on literally how common the graphic style is used. ![]() I think recently some sideview battler packs came out for that as well.įirst Seed stuff is nice because it is a notch higher in realism and the doors allow for two block high characters (So if you edit your own, you dont have to edit all the doors of the DLC too.)īut I only know of the Town of Beginnings and Wood and Cave DLC in that genre. ( Some assetts I have seen on itch.io that are not on steam store. I would suggest the time fantasy characters for a more "Chrono Trigger" type look, plus there are a lot of DLCs for that so theme continuance is very possible. I suppose one could remaster their sprites into something amazing but are you going to overhaul the maps and battle system to reflect that new level of realism too? It is a lot of work to just customize the tilesets and to comission outside sources to do it for you can add up as well. I do concur that the sprites do not look menacing even when it is a dark knight because of their tiny size, but I always assume that to be the sterotype placeholder image for RPG games. ![]() When I see the typical 4 party vs unknown evil I don't care at that point about customized graphics - it sounds cookie cutter to all the ones out there already. Does it depend on each particular game's tone to determine whether the character generator graphics will work? Feel free to share.Ī problem with relying on any outside sourced DLC is that when eveyone uses that, then how is your game unique then? I think to keep your game unique, one should focus on your story or a game mechanic off the beaten path. Do you disagree with my ramblings? Do you like the look of the chibi's? Do you think that they can be taken seriously? Should more people use the DLC's that add custom sprites, portraits, and even busts? (Ex. I just wanted to get other people's opinions on this, since so many of us that use the Engine use the Character Generator to handle all their sprites. I now go out of my way to find and buy/download custom graphics and even edit them to be taller and larger (Which, is a VERY ANNOYING process but one that I personally think is worth it) so that my game can actually be taken seriously. It's just so hard to take a dramatic moment in the game seriously when everyone's 2 feet tall.Īfter playing through a ton of other RPG Maker games that use them (A whole lot of commercial ones at that), I quickly realized that (IMO) in order to actually get your game to stand-out, you need to have graphics that are not from the base RPG Engine at all, even from the character generator at all. Not to mention, there's no option to make busts in the character generator.Īs for the chibi's themselves, I have to say I hate them. RTP graphics but, after awhile, they all start to blend together and they all scream RPG Maker. Sure, everyone's created characters are different and they are definitely better than the but, at the end of the day, are they really that great? Are they even custom? At this point, I have to say no. Heck, there's even a whole ton of DLC and free resources to add more parts to the generator. A simple way to make "unique" graphics for your game.
